Scientific Calculator
Online scientific calculator with trig in degrees or radians, logs, powers, roots, factorials, memory and history.
Calculated in your browser – nothing you enter is sent or stored.
This free online scientific calculator handles everything from basic arithmetic to trigonometry, logarithms, powers, roots and factorials. It works in degrees or radians, follows the correct order of operations, keeps a history of your calculations and memory (M+, M−, MR), and works with your keyboard – no app or download needed.
How to Use the Scientific Calculator
- Type or click an expression such as
2(3 + 4)^2and press = or Enter. The answer previews as you type. - Trig: choose deg or rad first. Press 2nd for the inverse functions (sin⁻¹, cos⁻¹, tan⁻¹).
- Ans reuses the last result; pressing an operator right after = continues from it.
- EXP enters scientific notation: 6.02E23 means 6.02 × 10²³.
- Click any line in the history to load that expression again.

Order of Operations
The calculator follows the standard order taught in US schools – often remembered as PEMDAS: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division (left to right), Addition and Subtraction (left to right).
- 2 + 3 × 4 = 2 + 12 = 14, not 20.
- −2² = −4: the exponent applies before the minus sign. Type (−2)² to get 4.
- 2^3^2 = 2^9 = 512: stacked powers are worked from the top down.
- Multiplication can be implied: 2π, 3(4 + 1) and 2sin(30) all work.
Functions Explained
- sin, cos, tan: in degree mode, sin(30) = 0.5 and tan(45) = 1. In radian mode, sin(π/6) = 0.5.
- log is base 10 (log(1000) = 3); ln is the natural log, base e ≈ 2.71828 (ln(e) = 1).
- √ and ∛: square and cube roots. Use x^(1/n) for any nth root.
- n!: 1 × 2 × … × n, for whole numbers up to 170.
- 1/x, eˣ, 10ˣ, |x|: reciprocal, exponentials and absolute value.
Results show up to 14 significant digits, and very large or small numbers switch to scientific notation. For fractions with exact answers use the fraction calculator, and for statistics the standard deviation calculator.
Can I Use It for Homework and Tests?
It's great for homework and checking work. For the SAT, ACT and AP exams, check the College Board's or ACT's calculator policy; the digital SAT includes the Desmos graphing calculator built in.
