Convert DPI

Change image DPI to 72, 150, 300 or 600 without quality loss.

Your files are processed on your device and are never uploaded.

Change the DPI of an image to 72, 96, 150, 200, 300, 600 or any custom value. Many government, exam and printing portals reject photos that are not "300 DPI" – this tool fixes that in one click without touching the picture itself.

Convert DPI with ShrinkBee

Only the DPI value stored inside the file changes. The pixels, dimensions and quality stay exactly the same, so your photo looks identical while meeting the requirement.

How to Convert Image DPI

  1. Choose your image: JPG or PNG work best.
  2. Pick the new DPI: 72, 96, 150, 200, 300 or 600 – or enter a custom DPI.
  3. Click Change DPI and download the updated image.

What Is DPI?

DPI (dots per inch) tells printers how many pixels to place in each inch of paper. A photo 600 pixels wide prints 2 inches wide at 300 DPI, or about 8.3 inches wide at 72 DPI. Screens ignore DPI, so changing it does not affect how the photo looks on a computer or phone.

Which DPI Should I Use?

  • 300 DPI – the standard for printing and for most official forms that state a DPI.
  • 200 DPI – common for scanned documents and signatures.
  • 600 DPI – high-detail printing and archival scans.
  • 72 / 96 DPI – web and screen images.

Need the photo to print at a specific physical size as well? Use Resize Image in Centimeters, which sets both the size and the DPI.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I change an image to 300 DPI?
Choose your image, select 300 under New DPI and click Change DPI. Download the updated file.
Does changing DPI reduce or improve quality?
Neither. Only the DPI value stored in the file changes – the pixels and quality stay exactly the same.
Why does my form ask for 300 DPI?
DPI tells printers how large to print the image. Forms ask for 300 DPI so photos print sharply at the required physical size.
How do I set both the size in cm and the DPI?
Use Resize Image in Centimeters, which resizes the photo and stores the DPI together.
How can I check the current DPI?
Is Convert DPI free to use?
Yes. Convert DPI is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Your files are processed directly in your web browser on your own device. Nothing is uploaded or stored, and the file is gone from memory when you close the tab.
