Compress PDF for Email
Shrink a large PDF so it attaches to Gmail or Outlook and opens quickly.
Pages are converted to optimised images, so text in the result can't be selected.
Your files are processed on your device and are never uploaded.
Trying to email a PDF and Gmail says the file is too large – or it turns into a Google Drive link? This page shrinks the PDF so it attaches directly and opens quickly on the recipient's phone. 2 MB is preset, small enough to send several files in one email.
How to Compress a PDF for Email
- Choose your PDF – a report, scanned document, brochure or presentation.
- 2 MB is preset. Choose 1 MB for phone-friendly files or 5 MB for image-heavy brochures.
- Pick a level: Low or Recommended keeps quality close to the original at these sizes.
- Click Compress PDF and attach the downloaded file.
Email Attachment Limits
- Gmail: 25 MB in total per email; bigger files are sent as a Drive link.
- Outlook / Hotmail: about 20 MB per email.
- Company mail servers often set 10 MB or less – and some reject large mail without telling you.
Attachments also grow by about a third when they are sent, so a 20 MB PDF can already be too big for Gmail. Keeping each PDF to a few MB avoids surprises.
Keep the Text Selectable?
For reports and ebooks where the reader should search or copy text, try the PDF Compressor first – it shrinks only the images. Use this page when you need a guaranteed size.
Sending Many Documents?
Combine them into one attachment with Merge & Compress PDF, or split a very long PDF into parts with Split PDF.
