Applying for a new PAN card or a correction online? The NSDL (Protean) and UTIITSL portals reject photos and signatures that are a few KB too big or the wrong shape. This page has the sizes ready: photo 2.5 × 3.5 cm under 20 KB and signature 4.5 × 2 cm under 10 KB at 200 DPI for NSDL, plus a 213 × 213 px photo under 30 KB for UTIITSL.
How to Resize Your Photo and Signature for PAN
- Choose the image – a recent photo or a scan of your signature.
- Pick the portal and file: NSDL photo, NSDL signature or UTIITSL photo.
- Click Resize image. Size, DPI and the KB limit are set automatically.
- Download and upload it on the PAN portal.
PAN Card Photo and Signature Size
- NSDL / Protean photo: 3.5 cm tall × 2.5 cm wide, 200 DPI, JPG, up to 20 KB.
- NSDL / Protean signature: 2 cm tall × 4.5 cm wide, 200 DPI, JPG, up to 10 KB.
- UTIITSL photo: often 213 × 213 pixels, JPG, up to 30 KB.
- Photo rules: recent colour photo, white background, face clearly visible, no cap or dark glasses.
Portals update their limits from time to time – the upload screen shows the current size, so check it before you submit.
Signature Tips for PAN
- Sign in black ink on plain white paper, the same way you sign at the bank.
- Crop tightly around the signature so it fills the wide 4.5 × 2 cm frame.
- 10 KB is very small – a clean black-and-white signature fits easily. Clean it up with Black & White Image first.
Photo for PAN Correction
