Crop GIF Online

Draw a rectangle and crop every frame of a GIF to it.

Your files are processed on your device and are never uploaded.

This GIF cropper cuts an animated GIF down to the part you want. Drag a box over the area to keep, or type its exact position and size, and every frame is cropped the same way. The animation and its timing stay as they were. It is free, adds no watermark, and your GIF is never uploaded.

How to Crop a GIF

  1. Choose your GIF, or drag and drop it into the box above.
  2. Pick a shape if you need one: Free, Square 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 16:9 or 9:16.
  3. Move the box by dragging it, and resize it with the round handle. For exact numbers, type Left, Top, Width and Height in pixels.
  4. Click Save GIF and download the cropped GIF.

The Whole Animation Is Cropped

You place the box on the first frame, but the crop applies to every frame. Before saving, watch the preview play through. If the subject moves out of the box later in the GIF, make the box bigger or move it.

Cropping Is the Fastest Way to Shrink a GIF

A GIF stores every pixel of every frame, so cutting away empty space makes the whole file smaller.

For a size limit, crop first and then use the GIF Compressor. The less there is to compress, the better the result looks.

Common Crops

  • Square 1:1 for profile pictures, Discord emoji and stickers, and Instagram posts.
  • 9:16 for stories, Reels and other tall phone formats.
  • 16:9 for widescreen, websites and presentations.
  • Free to remove black bars, watermarks at the edge, or empty space around the subject.

After cropping, you can set an exact size in pixels with the GIF Resizer.

Your GIF Never Leaves Your Device

The cropping happens in your web browser. Your GIF is not uploaded, so it stays private, and there is no file size limit apart from your device's memory.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does cropping a GIF make the file smaller?
Yes. Fewer pixels in every frame means a smaller file. Cropping away half the picture usually removes about half the file size.
Does cropping lower the quality?
No. The pixels you keep are not changed at all. They are just no longer surrounded by the part you cut away.
Can I crop a GIF to a square?
Yes. Click Square 1:1 and the box keeps a square shape while you move and resize it. There are also 4:3, 3:4, 16:9 and 9:16 shapes.
Does cropping change the animation?
No. Every frame is cropped the same way and keeps its own timing, so the GIF plays exactly as before.
What is the largest GIF I can crop?
There is no limit set by the tool. The GIF is cropped in your browser, so only your device's memory matters.
Is Crop GIF free to use?
Yes. Crop GIF is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Your files are processed directly in your web browser on your own device. Nothing is uploaded or stored, and the file is gone from memory when you close the tab.
