Base64 to Text Decoder
Decode Base64 to text as you type. Fixes data URIs, line breaks, URL-safe strings and missing padding.
Your files are processed on your device and are never uploaded.
Decode Base64 to readable text the moment you paste it. There is no button to press – the text appears as you type. Because real-world strings are often messy, the decoder cleans them up first and tells you what it fixed.
How to Decode Base64 to Text
- Paste your Base64 into the top box.
- Read the result in the Decoded text box – it updates live.
- Copy it or click Download .txt to save it as a file.
Automatic Repairs
Strings copied from emails, logs, URLs and code rarely arrive clean. Before decoding, the tool:
- Removes a data URI prefix such as
data:text/plain;base64, - Strips line breaks and spaces, so line-wrapped MIME Base64 from emails works
- Converts URL-safe characters (
-and_, used in JWTs and links) back to+and/ - Adds missing
=padding or removes extra padding
A short note under the box lists every change it made, so you always know what was decoded.
Correct UTF-8 Output
The decoded bytes are read as UTF-8, so accented letters, emoji and non-Latin scripts come out correctly instead of as strange symbols like "é". If the string holds a file instead of text – a picture or a PDF, for example – use Base64 to File or Base64 to Image.
Common Things to Decode
- JWT parts: The header and payload of a JSON Web Token are URL-safe Base64 – paste one part (between the dots) to read the JSON.
- Basic Auth headers: Decode the value after "Basic " to see the user name.
- Email sources: Read message parts sent with
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64. - Kubernetes secrets and config values stored as Base64.
Private by Design
Strings you decode may contain tokens or personal data, so the decoding happens only in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server or saved.
