A free online metronome for practising any instrument, singing or dancing. Set the tempo in BPM or find it with Tap tempo, choose the time signature and subdivision, pick a Beep, Click or Woodblock sound, and accent the first beat of each bar. You can also download a click track to play along with anywhere.
How to Use the Metronome
- Set the tempo: Drag the BPM slider, or tap the Tap tempo button in time with a song.
- Choose beats per bar: from 2/4 and 3/4 to 7/8, 9/8 and 12/8.
- Choose a subdivision: quarter notes, eighth notes, triplets or sixteenth notes.
- Pick a sound and volume, and tick Accent the first beat so you always know where the bar starts.
- Press Start.
Common Tempos
| Tempo | BPM | Feels like |
|---|---|---|
| Largo / Adagio | 40–76 | Slow ballads, slow practice |
| Andante / Moderato | 76–108 | Walking pace, most pop songs |
| Allegro | 108–156 | Upbeat pop, rock and dance |
| Presto | 168–200 | Fast punk, bebop, drum and bass |
Practising with a Metronome
- Start slow. Play a hard passage at a tempo where it is perfect, then raise it by 4–5 BPM at a time.
- Use subdivisions for fast runs and tricky rhythms – hearing every eighth or sixteenth note keeps you even.
- Try clicks on 2 and 4. Jazz and funk players often hear the click as the backbeat.
- Find a song's tempo with Tap tempo, then practise along at that speed.
Download a Click Track
Set the length in minutes, choose MP3 or WAV, and download the click as an audio file. Play it on your phone in a rehearsal, load it into a recording app as a guide, or share it with your band.
Free and Precise
The metronome runs in your browser with precise timing – no app, no account. Want to match an echo to your song's tempo? Use the BPM in Add Echo to Audio.
